Why Use Additives in Drilling Fluid

Our goal is to improve drilling performance

Drilling operations are becoming more demanding every day. To meet these challenges, drilling equipment and processes are becoming increasingly efficient.

To ensure that the drilling operation is completed successfully and with maximum profitability, it is essential to use ADDITIVES in the formulation of specific drilling muds.

In terms of drilling and borehole operations, drilling mud consists of a wide variety of mixtures of liquids, solids, or gases used in onshore drilling or borehole operations.

There is a wide variety of drilling fluids, which are classified as: oil-based, water-based, and gas-based (pneumatic).

  • The main functions of drilling mud during drilling are as follows:
  • Facilitates drilling at granular levels due to its “lubricating” effect.
  • To facilitate the cooling of the drill bit or drill bit crown.
  • To facilitate the removal of debris from inside the borehole, thereby helping to clean the bottom of the well
  • It provides stability to the borehole walls, provides the cohesion needed to bind unconsolidated sand and gravel, and thus allows them to be drilled while maintaining the stability of the borehole.
  • Prevent siphoning (soil instability) when drilling into low-pressure confined aquifers.
  • Prevent damage to productive areas and minimize traffic disruptions
  • Protect the drill pipe from corrosion, since none of our drilling fluids are corrosive
  • Respect the environment.

Once the project is complete, the disposal and management of the slurry is simple and cost-effective, since many processes rely on chemical degradation using sodium hypochlorite. In addition, some of our drilling fluids are biodegradable.

Since drilling mud is an important component of the drilling process, it is important to monitor its physical and chemical properties to ensure that the fluid performs efficiently during the drilling phase.

At QUIMACER, we offer our partners technical advice and high-quality additives for formulating high-performance drilling muds. In this way, we aim to ensure successful drilling.
